José María Morelos took command of the independent army and campaigned in the south of the country.
The Indians and peasants are defeated on the Calderón bridge. Hidalgo is apprehended, judged and executed by hanging his head in the corners of the Alhóndiga de granaditas.
The Querétaro conspiracy to rise up against the viceroyalty is born.
Father Miguel Hidalgo encourages the parishioners and gives the Grito in Dolores to begin the fight for Mexican independence.
José María Morelos calls the first Independent Congress.
The liberals sought to restore the constitution of 1812 to recover the autonomy of the viceroyalty.
Later waves of modern liberal thought and struggle were strongly influenced by the need to expand civil rights.
In Europe and North America, the establishment of social liberalism became a key component in the expansion of the welfare state.
