  • Children account for about 19% of all reported COVID-19 cases in the United States since the pandemic began.
  • Although children are just as likely to get COVID-19 as adults, they are less likely to get seriously ill.

COVID-19 in infants and children

In addition to the symptoms already known in adults such as respiratory symptoms, fever, and headache, minors may experience gastrointestinal symptoms, such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, and vomiting.

Some children with COVID-19 need to be admitted to the hospital, treated in the intensive care unit, or put on a ventilator to help them breathe.
