The historical novel is a narrative in which the imaginary story of the protagonists is projected on the background of real events and in which the truth melts with the plausible of invention. It spreads particularly in Italy in the 19th century with Manzoni. The realist and social novel is a narration of plausible events, set in places and times close to the author, which faces the most interesting and problematic aspects of contemporaneity.The modern novel tells a story in which the characters and situations are always realistic, individual initiative is exalted and the events are presented as personal experiences of the author.
