WHAT ARE CAUSATIVE SENTENCES?
The causative is used to express that the subject of the sentence does not perform the action, but causes another to do it. That is, the causative indicates that someone forces, causes or makes, either voluntarily or involuntarily another person to perform an action.
I'll get my hair cut next week.
I was getting my car washed.
DIFFERENCES BETWEEN TO HAVE/GET SOMETHING DONE
The most important causative structure is to have/get something done:
- To have something done, is to make someone do something
- To get something done, is to get someone to do something
With to have something done we express the fact of entrusting something to a person. To get something done means almost the same, but it is more informal and therefore used more in spoken language.
STRUCTURE
The structure is:
Subject + Causative verb + Object + Verb in participle
Luis + is having + his car + repaired
She + got + her apartment + painted
VERB TENSES IN WHICH WE CAN USE IT
