L'informatica si occupa di elaborare ed archiviare informazioni di tipo numerico, alfabetico, garfico ed acustico.

Cos'è un computer

E' un apparecchio elettronico che riceve dati, li elabora e restituisce altri dati. L'insieme delle parti elettroniche e meccaniche viene detto Hardware, mentre l'insieme dei programmi è detto Software.

I PC portatili con batterie ricaricabili sono detto Laptop o Notebook

Mainframe : grossi computer per una mole di dati da elaborare

I tipi di computer

Supercomputer : sistemidi più potenti e veloci

I più piccoli PC portatili chiamati Tablet o Palmari

Le reti di computer

Per scambiare dati da un computer ad un altro sono nate le reti informatiche. LAN : rete che unisce un PC ad apparecchiature periferiche; WAN : si estendono a lunghe distanze ed utilizzano anche linee telefoniche; INTERNET : è la più grande rete e collega tutto il mondo. I colegamenti possono essere fatti wireless o attraverso ad un modem.

Il software

II software sono i programmi che permettono al computer di svolgere le funzioni. Il sistema operativo collega l'hardware ed i programmi. I programmi applicativi sono quelli di scrittura, di calcolo, di audio e video, di grafica....
