"The Pianist" is a film directed by Roman Polanski and it was released in 2002. The film is set in Warsaw, Poland, during WW2. Wladyslaw Szpilman, a talented and celebrated pianist, sees Warsaw gradually changing after WW2 begins. He and his family are forced into the Warsaw Ghetto along with thousands of other jews.

Favourite Scene

The encounter between Szpilman and Hosenfeld is a heart touching and emotinal scene. Hosenfeld, despite being a part of the German forces, shows compassion and is willing to help Szpilman. It shows the complexities of kindness even during dark times.

Curiosities

  • This film is based on the real life story of Wladyslaw Szpilman. Also Szpilman is the author of the film.
  • Adrien Brody had to do a rigorous diet where he lost about 14kg, just to represent the hunger the prisioners had to go through.

My honest opinion

I chose this film because it offers a bitter description of the Holocaust, one of the darkest periods in human history, and also it educates people so that such atrocities are not repeated in the future. In addition, I also chose it because it triggers various emotions in viewers. This movie can have moments of beauty as it can have moments of amidst unimaginable suffering.

THANKS!
