One day in 1965, a bus driver in Alabama, in the US, asked Rosa Parks to give a man her seat-because he was white, and she was black. She said`No`, and the police decided to take her away. It was a very important moment in the history of black people`s rights in the US. The statue shows Rosa sitting on a rock, wearing the same clothes as that day in 1965.

`The Candangos` were men who travelled from all over Brazil, between 1956 and 1960, to build the new capital city of Brazil, Brasilia. In 1956 , 256 men arrived-but before long, there were 30,000, who worked hard to build the city. Brasilia opened in 1960, and this eight-metre-high statue to rember the `Candangos` is in the `Three Powers` square. The two figur are holding digging tools.
