Before we begin...
What are the dangers a journalist might have faced during WW2? How is wartime journalism different from normal journalism? How do you think wartime news is reported?
War Journalism throughout History
People wrote about the wars and conflicts they experienced- the Peloponnesian Wars, the Spanish Civil War Official wartime journalism evolved over time. Accurate visualised accounts were hard to be prepared until WW2, thanks to portable cameras

War Journalism- World War II
Embedded journalism- reporters attached with army units to cover wars Censorship vs. press independence- news would be scrutinised by editors to fit political expectations Role of propaganda- both the Axis and the Allies involved?
Dangers of reporting in a war
In earlier wars, journalists personally assumed- and faced- the risks of reporting. Around WW2, we see more formalised press corps. Daring journalists would join the effort to report under gunfire and mortars. Compared with soldiers- somewhat better perks, but still dangerous
