1. When and Where is this festival celebrated?
This festival/competition takes place every year in Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada starting April 1, 2020.
2. What are the origins of the festival?
The first International Hair Freezing Contest took place in February 2011 as a spin-off of the local Yukon Sourdough Rendezvous. After competing in winter sporting events all day, athletes from the rendezvous would head to Takhini to take a mineral bath in one of the pools fed by the area's natural hot spring.
3. What happens?
To enter, participants must visit the facility when the temperature is below -20°C, dip their head into the water, style their wet hair and wait for it to freeze into shape, then ring a bell near the pool entrance.
The competition selected 5 winners for 'Best Male', 'Best Female', 'Best Group', Most Creative' and 'People's Choice'.
BEST FEMALE (2023 winner)
BEST GROUP (2023 winner)
BEST MALE (2023 winner)
BEST FACIAL HAIR (2023 winner)
4. Other things to do.
At the Yukon Wildlife Preserve just 30 minutes' drive from downtown Whitehorse, you take a guided tour to see some of the many wonderful creatures that call the region home. These include moose, muskoxen, mountain goats,
5. Why I recommend you going to this festival?
I recommend going to this festival because it would be very fun to see how your hair freezes when you get out of the water
