Le célèbre Vélociraptor appartient à la famille des dromeosauridés, les fameux raptors, une famille de dinosaures théropodes dont les descendants sont les Oiseaux. Contrairement au film Jurassic park qui présente des dinosaures de taille moyenne comme Deinonychus, Velociraptor était un petit dinosaure emplumé d’environ 75 cm de haut. Dans une étude récente menée par des scientifiques anglais, sa vitesse de pointe a été estimée entre 40 et 60 km/h. Le volume de son cerveau était relativement important proportionnellement à sa taille, lui conférant une intelligence supérieure par rapport aux autres dinosaures mais bien éloignée cependant de celle affichée par certains réalisateurs dans leur film…
