Define what is a content word and give two examples.

Content words have the most important information and meaning. These words are the words that are accentuated in a sentence, meaning that the accentuated syllables must be longer, stronger (tone) and clearer in a sentence. Content words are nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs. Examples: • My neighbor's rabbit eats quickly • The Moon always rises at night

Define what is a function word and give two examples.

A function word is one that connects grammatically to content words. They are important in that they help complete the idea but do not provide as much information. Examples: • You should put the ball under the table • Study hard so you can win the exam

Define falling intonation and write two sentences as examples.

Descending intonation happens when the tone of your voice is lower at the end of the sentence and is the most commonly used norm in American English. Examples: • Why did you cook? • When Will you come?

Define raising intonation and write two sentences as examples.

Raising intonation happens when the pitch of your voice rises at the end of a sentence. Examples: • Did you cook? • Is he handsome?
