Medication Reconciliation
Is the process of comparing a patients medication orders to the medications the patient is currently taking.
Pharmacy Benefit Manager
Is a third-party administrator of medication programs that is responsible for processing and paying prescription drug claims. These organizations rely on a complex network of relationships with pharmacies, drug manufacturers, health plans, employer groups, providers, and patients to encourage cost-effective utilization of prescription drugs.
Surescript
NextGen Healthcare has collaborated with several third party ePrescribing providers, such as Surescripts to integrate the ePrescibing features. These third parties provide medication data and communicate with certified pharmacies.
CPT CODE
Current Procedural Terminology code – Procedure codes, are billable codes that explain what type of service was performed on a patient
ICD CODES
Clinical codes that translate the written description of the diseases, illnesses, and injuries into codes from a particular classification. ICD-10 codes describe the patient's medical issue.
Electronic Prior Authorization
Electronic Prior Authorization (ePA) integrates directly with electronic health records (EHRs), enabling healthcare professionals to easily obtain prior authorizations in real time at the point of care. ePA pre-populates patient data automatically, eliminating the need to complete and send forms manually.

Formulary
A formulary is a listing of prescription drugs that is usually established by a health plan organization. The formulary represents the most current clinical opinion of physicians, pharmacists and other experts of pharmacology and disease treatment and prevention. This can include both brand name and generic drugs. The purpose of a formulary is to: • Discourage the use of marginally effective medications and treatments. • Assure the selection of medications proven to be safe, effective, and affordable • Reduce the cost of health care
ePrescribe
This functionality incorporates the electronic generation of prescriptions through an automated data-entry process utilizing e-Prescribing (eRx) software, such as NextGen® Healthcare, and a transmission network that links to participating pharmacies. It is estimated that approximately 7,000 deaths occur each year in the United States due to medication errors created by hand-writing illegibility, incorrect dosing, and missed drug-drug or drug-allergy reactions. The benefits of eRx are: Improved patient safety and overall quality of care A reduction in faxes, phone calls and call-backs to pharmacies Refill requests and authorization processes are streamlined Improved Formulary adherence. Increased patient convenience by reducing patient trips to the pharmacy and reducing wait times. True provider mobility Improved reporting ability
Interactions
Are negative interaction with either an allergy or another medication previously prescribed. • Drug to drug interaction check • Drug - allergy check • Drug disease contraindication check • Drug duplicate check • Pediatric precautions • Geriatric Precautions
Sig
The sig specifies the medication's directions for use.
Clinical Reconciliation Module
The Clinical Reconciliation module enables you to review a patient's existing clinical data and data from an imported CCD and C-CDA document or a patient medication history file from an eprescibe vendor or an HL7 message from a state immunization registry.
Medication History
Here you can view a patients medication history detail for both payer and pharmacy data. Rx History uses Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM) data to inform a provider of medications reported to the patient's insurance.
