his life
Mahmoud Darwish was born in 1941 in a village in the Galilee. His native village was destroyed during the Arab-Israeli conflict of 1948, and unilaterally declared an inaccessible military zone in 1951. In 1948 during the first conflict, Mahmoud's parents sought refuge in Lebanon, who managed to return to their country illegally after just one year. As a young man he was arrested and sentenced to prison several times, for his presence in Israel without permission and for reciting subversive poetry in public.
his career
When he turned 60 he returned to making poetry, but seven years later he died of a heart operation and his funeral was stately. To this day he is in second place among the best Arab poets
Since 1987 he has joined the Palestinian party to find peace in the conflict against Israel.
Mahmoud studied at various universities in Europe up to the age of 40, becoming a journalist.
his books
"Less roses" the first book by Mahmoud with two languages (Italian and Arabic). 1987
"Beyond the Last Sky"takes Palestine as a metaphor. 2007
"Mural" his most read and loved book. 2005
"The bed of the foreigner" dedicated to his beloved Rita. 2009
A rare photo of the poet Mahmoud Darwish and his beloved Rita, an Israeli girl, of whom he wrote: "I love you despite the nose of the tribe, my city and the customs chains". When it was discovered that she worked for Israeli Mossad intelligence, he said:"I felt like my homeland was occupied again".
The war will end. Leaders will shake hands. The old woman will keep wai for her martyred son. That girl will continue to wait for her beloved husband. And those children will be waiting for their heroic father. I don't know who sold our homeland. But I know who pays the price.
قالوا "هل تحبها حتى الموت؟" وقلت "اجعلها تتكلم أمام قبري وانظر كيف ستعيدني للحياة" They said "do you love her to death?" and I said "make her speak in front of my grave and see how she will bring me back to life"
"إذا اضطررت إلى إخبار البحر بما أشعر به تجاهك ، سيترك شواطئه وقذائفه وأسماكه وسيتبعني" "If I had to tell the sea how I feel about you, it would leave its shores, its shells, its fish and it would follow me"
v"ربما القمر جميل لأنه بعيد" "Maybe the moon is beautiful because it's far"
"وإذا أحبك الآلاف من الآخرين ، فإنهم سيحبونك مجرد قطرة من محيط حبي لك" "and if a thousand others love you, they will love you just a drop of my ocean of love for you"
"ما أجمل أن تسكت عندما يتوقع منك شخص ما أن تغضب منهم. وكم هو لطيف أن تضحك عندما يعتقد شخص ما أنك على وشك البكاء" "How nice it is to keep quiet when someone expects you to be angry with them. And how nice it is to laugh when someone thinks you are about to cry"
"مررت أمام أعين كثيرة لكنني تاهت في عينيك" "I passed in front of so many eyes but I got lost in yours"
my opinion
Mahmoud Darwish is my favorite poet because his quotes are the only ones that amaze me and make me think. His sentences are perfect for explaining what some of us have in mind and he tells the truth of the facts in a clean and elegant way.
On the train we swapped places, you wanted the window and I wanted to look at you
