Addicted to gambling tend to give up on their social, laboral and familiar relationships. Within these consequences, it has been shown that they have serious concentration problems, and to this is added that they tend to suffer from insomnia. This is because casinos and betting places often have night schedules, so instead of resting they spend their sleeping hours in these places. Many addicted people end up being broke because they do not know how to manage their money. And, with the unpaid debts they may have, they can end up in trouble with the law, even going to jail. In conclusion, we can subdivide the most impotant consequences of ludopathy into personal, familiar, labour or academic, social, economic and judicial consequences.

03. REAL STATISTICS IN SPAIN OF LUDOPATHY

In Spain, polls made by the Spanish State have revealed that around a 1, 7% of the national population between 15 and 64 years admit that they possibly have ludopathy or problems on gambling in 2022. This addiction is becoming commoner and commoner between teenagers from 15 years onwards. However, teenagers prefer sports betting while adults prefer to play bingo or slot machines. Furthermore, this percentage is higher in men than in women. Within this 1, 7%, the 1, 3% corresponds to people thinking they have problems on gambling while the remainder 0, 4% belongs to people believing they are compulsive gamblers. Nevertheless, the percentage of people with ludopathy or serious problems with gambling has decreased in relation to the ones belonging to the past four years: in 2020 the 2, 2% and in 2018 the 2, 6% of the total number of inhabitants aged between 15 and 64 in Spain. Additionally, other studies made by IPOLGOB of the UC3M show that Spain is the second country in Europe with the lowest rate on ludopathy, ahead of countries like Sweden, Germany, France and England. Moreover, this report shows that around a 80% of the total adult population being between 18 and 75 in Spain have taken part on gambling games. This percentage of people corresponds to 28 million of inhabitants.

05. PERSONAL REFECTION ON LUDOPATHY

From our point of view, ludopathy is a huge and vital to solve problem among teenagers and youth. Furthermore, we believe that there is only a way to solve this issue: the State has to invest more money in helping the compulsive gambler to get out of ludopathy. We think that the compulsive gambler has to receive the best mental health attention as well as familiar support in order not to cause bigger problems like suicide. Moreover, in our opinion it is key not to let teenagers to get into it, so to do such we think that they have to be taught about its seriousness as well as about the risks they must take into account when playing games. Their parents also have to control the games that their children are used to play because this issue happens also in online games. Additionally, this issue affects to the economy of the addicted person and his or her family which we believe that is also a vital consequence to consider in order to persuade youth not to get into it.
