I'm Still Standing

This paragraph is ready to hold stunning creativity, experiences and stories.I'm still standing. Yeah, yeah, yeah x2 Once I never could've hoped to win You're starting down the road leaving me again The threats you made were meant to cut me down And if our love was just a circus you'd be a clown by now You know I'm still standing better than I ever did Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid I'm still standing after all this time Picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind I'm still standing. Yeah, yeah, yeah x2 Don't you know that I'm still standing better than I ever did? Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid And I'm still standing after all this time
You could never know what it's like Your blood like winter freezes just like ice And there's a cold lonely light that shines from you You'll wind up like the wreck you hide behind that mask you use And did you think this fool could never win? Well, look at me, I'm a-coming back again I got a taste of love in a simple way And if you need to know while I'm still standing you just fade away Don't you know I'm still standing better than I ever did? Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid And I'm still standing after all this time Picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind
Lryics
- Has 2 verses, with a chorus & post-chorus
- Has the repetition of I’m Still Standing (the title of the song), mainly in the chorus. Which emphasizes that after all the hurt someone or something put him through, he is still living after all the difficulty
- Has an AABB rhyme scheme in the chorus, but it does not contribute to the song
- If I never heard the song, I would believe that the song has a moderate/faster tempo because of the chorus. The word choices helps with that prediction
Structure
Tone/Mood
The tone/mood sounds proud and mostly victorious because the writer wrote the lines “And did you think this fool could never win?” and “Lookin’ like a true survivor, feelin’ like a little kid/ And I’m still standin’ after all this time”. The mood for the listeners is inspiration/hope because the writer tells how he survived from something/someone that was hard to break away from, giving the listeners hope that they can one day do the same. Resulting in the mood to stay the same throughout the song. Lyrics that make the mood are “Well look at me, I’m a-comin’ back again”, “The threats you made were meant to cut me down/ And if our love was just a circus, you’d be a clown by now”.
The major theme of the song is to keep fighting, even when times get tough. Elton John uses the message about surviving & determination to structure the theme. Showing that even after you get knocked down by something that is hard to overcome, you have to keep fighting. Lines that show this are “An did you think this fool could never win?/ Well look at me, I’m a-comin’ back again” “Lookin’ like a true survivor…I’m still standin’ ”. This shows that Elton was determined to get back up and fight back, which ended up in him surviving.
Theme/Message
The Song
The fast tempo stays the same throughout the song, which goes go back to how victorious Elton was when he broke through whatever or who was hurting him. He uses a band format, such as drums, guitar, and a bass to make the rhythm melodic. Adding to the break through Elton had and felt.

There are no images in the music video. The only thing the video shows is Elton standing while singing, looking into the camera. The background has broken down buildings that are still standing, which could point out that even though they went through a lot, they are still standing, relating to the theme.
Music Video
This song can have many meanings; it can be used as letting go somebody or something. However, John Elton wrote this song to show he is doing better now after having an addiction to drugs. Relating to his theme, he kept fighting during his hard times, and he survived.

Contextual Influence
To be honest, I chose this song cause everybody chose he songs I waned. However, after doing this song I learned is has a deeper meaning than what the beat makes it fell like. The lyrics and the instruments do a good job making the song sound so rhythmic, but still having the deeper message that you need to continue to fight, even when times are tough. After reading what Elton went through, this song gives me an even bigger inspiration to never give up.
