European Union's history

10 European countries created the Council of Europe to protect human rights and promote democracy.

5 May 1949 -european council

Germany, Italy, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg signed a treaty to operate their coal and steel industries under a common managment

18 April 1951 -european Steel and coal community

The 6 founding countries created the European Economic Community and the European Atomic Energy Community

25 March 1957 -Treaties of Rome

The Treaty of European Union is signed in Maastricht Treaty

7 february 1992-maastricht treaty

The euro is introduced in 11 countries. The first euro countries are Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain.

1 january 1999- the euro is born
