Digital SkillsSmartphone-Day

What is Data?

Your Phone knows a lot about you. Every time you use it, it collects information. This includes:
  • What you tap on
  • The Websites you visit
  • Your Position
  • The type of Phone you use
  • Your Settings
  • And a lot more

Why is that important?

Digital SkillsSmartphone-Day

Your data has a lot of value!

Even if a Service is free, a company can earn money by collecting information about you.

Digital SkillsSmartphone-Day

Most Websites make Money with Advertisements.

When a Company wants to sell their Products, they can put Ads on the Internet. Often they will use a Google Service for that, since many people use them. You have probably seen a lot of Ads, for example on YouTube or Google.

Digital SkillsSmartphone-Day

How do they know so much about me? Let´s make an Example

Digital SkillsSmartphone-Day

Do you use Google Maps for navigation?

Yes

No

Interesting! If you haven`t changed any Settings, Google probably knows:
  • Where you live
  • Where you work
  • What food you like
  • How much you earn
  • Your daily Routine
  • What you do in your freetime
  • ... and likely a lot more

Interesting! If you never use Google Maps, let`s try something else

Digital SkillsSmartphone-Day

Do you use Amazon for Shopping or just looking at stuff?

Yes

No

Very relatable. If you haven`t changed any Settings, Amazon probably knows:
  • How much money you earn
  • What your Hobbies are
  • If you have Children
  • If you are married
  • Where you live
  • What you will buy in the future and when

Wow, you seem to use your Phone very rarely. That is not a Problem though! If you are still interested, you can continue below.
