South America vs North America

South America is located south of Central America and includes countries such as Brazil, Argentina, Colombia and Chile. In contrast, South America is dominated by the Andes mountain range, which spreads across the entire continent, together with the vast Amazon rainforest.

North America is situated north of Central America and includes countries such as Canada, the United States and Mexico. It is characterized by a vast central lowland, the Rocky Mountains to the west and the Appalachian Mountains to the east.

North America underwent colonization mainly by European powers such as Great Britain, France and Spain, who established colonies and later formed the United States and Canada.

South America underwent colonization mainly by Spain and Portugal, with countries such as Brazil and much of Latin America being influenced by Spanish or Portuguese culture and language.

LANGUAGE

In North America, the predominant languages are English and French in Canada, while in the United States there are many other minority languages. In South America, the main language is Spanish, with the exception of Brazil, where Portuguese is spoken, and Suriname, which has Dutch as its official language.

The cultures of North America and South America are influenced by different traditions and historical roots. North America has been influenced by native indigenous peoples, European colonists and successive waves of immigration from different parts of the world. South America has great cultural diversity, with the influence of pre-Columbian indigenous cultures, together with Spanish and Portuguese culture and the immigration of groups of African and Asian origin.

The Brazilian Favelas

Favelas are the best example of the etreme conditon of poverty in wich a great part of the Brazilian population lives, called favelados, in a contemptuous manner. They are in the suburbs of the big cities, where poor hygiene and organized crime, characterize daily life.

Healthcare

• The American healthcare is very different from the Italian healthcare because it isn’t covered by the State.

• The reform proposals:

• Medicare: federal health insurance 65 years old and people disabilities particularly conditions
• Medicaid: helps cover medical costs for people with limited resources.
