The curve of the actual ranges compared to the ideal ranges were relatively close, a result of consistent and careful firing on a horizontal plane. The firing angles of 40, 45, and 50 degrees were very close to one another, most likely due to the fact that they were all mid-range degree values so they were close to the average range used to calculate the Intitial Velocity.
Screw Heads
Slider
- The screw heads fastening the PVC track onto the platform protrude slightly above the surface, somtimes impeding the path of the marble. This absorbs some of the kinetic energy in the marble, slowing it down slightly.
- The variable sliding mechanism in this design allows for unparalleled angle manueverability. A simple nut on the other end tightens in any marked position and clamps the platform at the desired angle without the hassle of moving around pegs or other hardware.
Looking Ahead
If this design were to be recreated and improved, a fully enclosed PVC track with a plunger on the inside powered by a rubber band running through a slot in the side would improve the tracking of the rubber band and guide the marble more efficiently. The plunger would support the marble better than the edge of a rubber band.
