was born on February 16th, 1990 in Toronto, Canada. He grew in Scarborough with his mother and his maternal grandmother. When he was 11, he started to get into legal trouble. He described his adolescence as "a story similar to KIDS, but without SIDA".

During Abel's youth, his father abandoned the family.

She raised Abel while his mother was working. She also took him to her "services" in an Ethiopian Orthodox church.

She worked in different jobs, often as a nurse, and she went to night school.

He grew as an only child, he was raised by his grandmother.

He studied in West Hill Collegiate Institute and Birchmount Park Collegiate Institute, but he didn't graduate.

He started his career in 2009 releasing songs anonimously in YouTube.

He gained coverage in points of sale.

In April, 2012, he started his Tour in USA with his band and participated in important festivals, like Coachella.

He met with Jeremy Rose and released some songs, but they had different ideas. The weeknd started releasing songs by himself.

He began to appear in a lot of soundtracks like Hunger Games, Avatar...

The Canadian rapper Drake helped The Weeknd generating interest in him.

The idea of his artistic name arose because he left school on a weekned, but he changed it into "weeknd"because there was a Canadian band called "The Weekend".
