Enhancing Teaching & Learning
"With smarter technology, do we still need teachers? Absolutely. Teachers observe the whole child in order to design purposeful learning experiences, and they provide the human touch which technology cannot offer." Ms Liew Wei Li (Director-General of Education at the Ministry of Education)

Subgroups VS Teams
Sharing of SLS Lesson Resources
Teachers can also use the collaborative features on SLS to enhance student learning. 'Teams' allow for differentiated access to SLS activities and/or to facilitate group learning. Stay tuned for more updates on these features in the upcoming SLS Release 19, which will be rolled out on 7 June 2023 Watch the video below to learn about the difference about Subgroups and Teams and how each can be used in your lesson design.
Active collaboration among teachers creates a growth-based learning environment and increases student learning progress. Teachers who engage in effective collaboration are more successful in improving student outcomes than those who work independently. Watch the video below to learn how SLS resources can be easily shared with your level or department teachers.

Nearpod
Enhancing Teaching & Learning
Nearpod is excellent for creating interactive lesson presentations and formative assessments. Once the lesson is launched live, students can engage with the multimedia presented on their devices. Teachers can monitor their progress either from the website or through the application. You are sure to see an increase in student engagement with the use of nearpod! Watch the video on the right to learn how to convert existing PowerPoint lessons to interactive slides using nearpod.

Educators are constantly striving to personalize learning for students. Technology is an opportunity for teachers to differentiate instruction and cater to students’ learning progress. The use of technology allows students to work at their own pace as well as prepares them for the 21st century workforce equipped with modern technology skills and competencies.I have enacted an e-Pedagogy Malay Language lesson to introduce Interjections using an interactive video and how it can be used in their essay writing for different types of sentences through the K-W-L strategy. To check for their individual understanding, they did an online Wordwall’ quiz. Students then collaborated to complete a group task using a Cooperative Learning strategy. They identified the correct interjections in a sentence and shared their responses while giving constructive comments to their peers’ answers on Padlet. They had much fun preparing and acting out the various dialogues which contains interjection words expressively. Lastly, students presented their responses on Padlet and did peer evaluations and class discussions . Personally, I find Padlet to be a great collaborative learning tool as it enables students to post their thoughts and promotes active learning amongst them. With technology and access to resources beyond classroom walls, students are inspired to become critical thinkers and lifelong learners.

The use of technology in the teaching and learning of music has been an area which the music department has been actively exploring and implementing within our music curriculum. While we may have been more active in the use of software, such as GarageBand and Chrome Music Lab, in music creating, in recent years, our focus in the use of technology in our music curriculum has moved towards that which promotes self-directed learning. With SLS as the main driver for our e-Pedagogy lessons, we started with designing lessons which focus on allowing students to have visual, audio and video resources to facilitate self-directed learning. The coursework module in SLS allowed us to consolidate all resources into a coursework package for easy access by the students. The Interactive Thinking Tool feature allowed for two-way feedback and monitoring in our lesson packages. Apart from the music curriculum, one of the highlights of my SLS journey is the moving of the String Ensemble CCA learning log online. With self-regulated learning as the key focus in our CCA, journalling has always been a must-do post CCA. Its intention was to allow students to plan what they need to do to improve and execute the plans. The convenience of SLS coursework has allowed us to finally go paperless and embark on online journalling.
