Express your interest If you want to participate in this programme and are not currently signed up, you can indicate your interest by filling out this form. You may want to browse through the various course elements first to ensure you understand what you can expect and what will be expected from you. You’ll be notified once you’re accepted onto the programme. Shortly thereafter, you’ll receive a message to say you’ve been enrolled in the learning pathway in Grow.

Join the Slack channel When you sign up for the programme be sure you are a member of the Slack channel called #PdiIntervention. The channel is public so you can join yourself. This is a good place to discuss any questions you have related to PDI with others.

Welcome module When you’re accepted into the programme, the first thing to dive into is the welcome module which includes a welcome message from Angela and an overview of the programme with time estimates and expected timeframe for completion.

Mentor When you are accepted into the programme you will be assigned a mentor. The mentor will be experienced with PDI and can answer any questions you have that come up along the way. You can also arrange to shadow some sessions with your mentor when you're ready.

Theory eLearning | ~5 hrs The first formal step in the programme is to complete the theory module. This module consists of documents, slide decks and eLearning on the following topics:

  • Child development.
  • ADHD at Healios.
  • ELFH | Understanding ADHD.
  • ELFH | A general practitioner's guide in ADHD: Diagnosis and Management (video).
  • ADHD neurobiology.
  • ADHD differential diagnosis.
  • Autism v ADHD.
You're required to take a knowledge check for this module with a pass rate of 80%. If you already have the knowledge you are welcome to "test out" of the materials by only passing the knowledge check. You're allowed three attempts to pass the knowledge check so you may also want to take it first to identify where you have knowledge gaps and focus your attention on those elements.

Healios PDI Standard Operating Procedure | ~1.5 hrs In this module you can watch a recording where Paula Manton walks through the PDI process at Healios to a group of clinicians who are taking it up. She answers their questions as they come up. We have also included the Healios PDI Standard Operating Procedure in the training so that you can quickly get up to speed with the process. This will be your blueprint for planning and carrying out the sessions.

Practise PDI Cases | ~1 hr In this part of the programme you will be presented with a PDI scenario. Based on the information provided you will be asked to identify the themes that are issues for the young person. After that you will be asked to draft three potential goals for the family and draft your proposed plan for three PDI sessions.

Shadow a PDI session | ~1.5 hrs You'll work out a session to shadow together with your mentor. You and your mentor can discuss the case afterwards and answer any questions that have come up for you. It's recommended that you shadow at least two times, but you can do more if you don't feel confident about delivering a session on your own yet. There is no need for you to be shadowed conducting a session.

Ongoing support Once you're ready to start carrying out PDI sessions on your own, you'll be added to the PDI Supervision programme so that you can share and learn from others as you continue to practise.

Reflective practice point Experiential learning is the process of learning through experience, and is more narrowly defined as "learning through reflection on doing". By engaging in hands-on experiences and reflection, you're better able to connect learned theories and knowledge learned to real-world situations. During this learning programme you'll be encouraged to use Gibbs' Reflective Cycle to work through the learning experiences by guiding you through different considerations at each stage.
