Task 3 - Activity Desing Grammar Translation Method with the Communicative Approach

Student:Maria Yeraldin Garcia LopezGroup: 551037_42 May 14 2023

Topic

Phrasal verbs

Context

A group of UNAD students from different semesters attend a webinar on Phrasal verbs organised by the LILEI community, with the aim of refining their communication and writing skills in the foreign language.

Objective

The students will be able to identify and use phrasal verbs in context, focusing on meaning and use rather than just memorizing the individual parts of the phrasal verb. Students will apply the grammar translation method with a communicative approach to ensure that they learn the grammar structures, as well as use them in everyday communication.

Description of the activity

Practice

Presentation

The presentation would start by introducing the topic of phrasal verbs, explaining what they are, what they are used for, then providing examples and their meanings, explaining the difference between separable and non-separable phrasal verbs, and finally the teacher would ask the students to think of examples of phrasal verbs they have encountered in their everyday life.

The practice will be oriented towards grammar exercises, sentences containing phrasal verbs, each student will have to match the phrasal verb with its meaning, so that they feel more confident and begin to better understand its use. Students will then be asked to work in groups to come up with a sentence using the phrasal verb in its everyday context. The teacher will be attentive to questions and possible corrections.

Production

Students will make groups of three to create a dialogue using the phrasal verbs they have learnt during the class, each group will present the dialogue to the class, they will focus on the correct use of the phrasal verbs, the teacher at the end of the presentations will comment on the mistakes made during pronunciation and intonation as well as highlight if the students made a good use and pronunciation of the phrasal verbs.
