THE ROSETTA STONE

The Rosetta stone was found in 1799 by one of Napoleon’s soldiers.Inscribed on it are three different types of writing. The stone was inscribed with ancient Greek writing and Egyptian Demotic, a type of Egyptian writing of the time It took until 1822 for historians to make a breakthrough. Thanks to the work of Thomas Young and Jean-François Champollion, the entire text has been translated. It is a decree - an official message - about the king of the time, Ptolemy V. Today, the Rosetta Stone is on display at the British Museum in London
