Diversity

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion are often used interchangeably but, although they are similar values, in fact have different meanings. Understanding the difference is important if we are to promote and operate an inclusive culture in our workplace, society and within our learning community. This is a core responsibility for a leader of any team. The difference between the terms is that equality means everyone can access the same opportunities, whereas diversity means valuing the difference between people and inclusion is a measure of how safe and welcome people feel in their environment. Ideally, throughout your programme you will increase your awareness and evidence your active promotion of equality, diversity and inclusion in your team and place of work. To enable you to do that, let’s unpack them a little further…

Inclusion

All UK apprenticeship programmes operate under Ofsted and The Department for Education, which has published guidance on promoting British values in schools to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain. They are:

British Values

If you're still in doubt...

British values are intended to reflect what it means to be a citizen in the modern and diverse culture that is Great Britain and pro-actively celebrate difference and promote diversity. These values were first set out by the Government in the ‘Prevent’ strategy in 2011.

Because we offer our apprenticeship programmes through Ofsted registered providers, we are bound by the same regulations as schools and colleges. As a result of changes brought in during 2018, all Ofsted registered organisations must now have a clear strategy for embedding these values and show how their work in doing so has been effective. British Values are therefore embedded in all apprenticeship delivery models and by all training providers. Evidence is recorded and is an integral part of your learner E-portfolio. You will hear more about these as we progress.

Last but not least, if you are still in doubt, then ask for help! It’s not in my interest to have work from my learners returned as plagiarised, so I am more than happy to help you. However, the responsibility not to plagiarise is with you.

Both the Main Provider and Merlin Consultancy are fully committed to safeguarding the welfare, wellbeing and safety of everyone involved in our programmes in general, and specifically in the delivery of apprenticeship programmes. The Safeguarding and Prevent legislation outlines the roles and responsibilities of all parties in providing a safe working and learning environment where everyone is protected from abuse of any kind, protected from harm and any potential risks of being exposed to violence, extremism, exploitation or victimisation. Safeguarding and prevent training will be an integral part of all apprenticeship training and evidenced in your learner portfolio.

If you're still in doubt...

Leading up to EPA, check that the apprentice feels prepared. That they have recieved details of when and where assessments will take place. Check that you have met any agreed deadlines for submissions.
