Screentime

Screen time refers to “the time a person spends looking at a screen on a device such as a television, smartphone, computer or game console,” according to Dr. Nicole Williams

BY CRISTIAN ROSS

A lot of apps are startiing to mimic the scrolling feature of tiktok. This feature reduces our attetntion span we have on everything. Leading to endless scrolling , and the want for more stimulus

Psycologists say that the reason for this is because we use our phones most when exhausted. And when we are exhausted we are less likely to get up and off of our phones

Research has shown that longer hours of screen time are negatively associated with peoples healthy development, sleep schedules, and drying of the eyes Regulation of screentime is vital to progressive mental health stability and recovery.

75%

Of people spend over 6 hours of their day on their phones

The controversey

Screen time perk week (in hours) over the years.

Stanford university and Harvard have done research and come out and say how detrimental screen time is to everyone in modern society. Stanford stating things like "daily effects on health and well-being are relatively small, over the course of months and years, those hours accumulate to something that has a major impact on health and development"

HER

According to Janne Orlando (Digital Literacy and Digital Wellbeing, Western Sydney University Penrith) we are seeing the increasing screen time over the years because of the normalization of technology in society. Almost all fashion brands and restraunts have a app or website you can easily use. As well as a lot of jobs are heavily increasing in the use of technology, as it is easier and faster.

While institutions like The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) in the UK are stating that because screen time is such a new thing in our world today there is real evidence that it can affect us long term. Saying in press interviews how impossible it is to set screen time limits for children and adults, because of the little information they have on the subject.
