Replace with ADDIE and/or SAM models; could even have series of slides showcasing infographics aligning learning models I'm familiar with to common ID ones.

Instructional Design Cycle

1. Investigate: Current Reality and Goal

2. Plan: Select research-based practices and plan lessons to support the goal

3. Implement: Support implementation; model, co-teach, or observe

4. Reflect: Analyze collected data; monitor progress towards goal; set new goals or approaches

Digital Learning Tools

Kahoot, Edpuzzle, Schoology (Developed Schoology content for HCOS Biology)

A means of helping students become Empowered Learners (Hanover Promise)

The use of these digital tools and resources is integrated with hands-on activities in the classroom (ie. blended learning).

Skype a Scientist

Students communicate live with practicing scientists using video conferencing technology. These sessions help students become Global Communicators (Hanover Promise).

Next

Students are prompted to apply, analyze, evaluate and create.

Citizen Science Research Projects

This project is another way I have helped students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills (becoming Empowered Learners and Resilient Individuals), as well as continue to grow as Digital Citizens, Innovative Designers, and Global Communicators.

Pedagogy Example #2: gamified learning

"In education, gamification is intended to transform traditional lessons into an enhanced learning experience where students choose to explore and practice content, earning badges and status benefits...the true rewards come from the students’ internal drive to study content, gain depth of understanding, and master material that leads to badges, achievements, and status. Success comes not from the rewards, but from how the learning journey is crafted for students to travel. Combining game mechanics with intentional exploration of aligned content will result in students’ participating willingly."

- J. McCarthy, "Using Gamification to Ignite Student Learning" (Edutopia)

Blended Learning Example #2

I designed a gamified learning experience based on the model of the game show, "The Amazing Race." This activity helps students learn a section of Biology content for which limited time is available due to course pacing.

This also exemplifies my willingness to take greater risks, re-center learning around students, and adopt innovative instructional methodologies.

Results of informal review

The graph at left depicts the effect of the Amazing Race of Kingdoms on student learning of content, based on results of an informal review quiz on the concepts (ie. a set of released SOL questions).
