intellectual risk-taking

I have always encouraged my students to take risks. I feel they learn more through mistakes than immediate success, regardless of our grading practices. However, I struggle to develop this mindset for myself. I always wanted every lesson to be perfect. It is so important that we give ourselves the same grace we give our students. It offers us the confidence to try new things and learn from the inevitable mistakes. And this makes us better teachers!

I have always reflected on my year... at the end of the year. It is an ongoing goal of mine to reflect in much more regular intervals. More than just the data, that we all reflect on, I've started to consider my teaching practices by unit and sometimes even lesson. This immediacy makes me much more aware of what I could do to further improve as a teacher.
