Spanish Fashion
The middle ages (10th-15th century)
The Golden Ages (16th-17th century)
Coats, cloaks, and tunics were primarily worn due to Muslim rule. Leather and silk were very popular fabrics to wear during this time. Turbantes (turbans), Moorish tights, calzas moras (shirts) were popularly worn garments.
Time period during the reigns of Philip II (1556-1598) and Philip III (1598-1621). In Philip II's reign "traje a la española" or as dressing Spanish-style costume became fashionable. The Spanish Influence on Parisian Fashion (19th-20th century)
When Catholicism became the predominant religion throughout Spain, the color black became the main color men and women wore. Black was meant as a way to show elegance and also had a religious connotation considering the color was worn by clergy and at funerals. Women wore veils over their heads and shoulders along with ruffled high collars.
During this time period, wealth Spainards and Spainish fashion designers traveled to Paris to participate in Parisian fashion. Designers like Cristobal Balenciaga and Manolo Blahnik were among those that influenced Parisian fashion during the early and mid 1900s.
Spanish Fashion
The Modern age (21st century-present day)
Fashion icons Coco Chanel and Cristobal Balenciaga revolutionized the Spanish fashion industry we see today. They combined their designs with inspiration from famous painters, Dalí and Picasso. Even though people mainly wear jeans and sneakers, traditional wear is still worn for ceremonies and performances. Traje de Flamenca (Flamenco dress) are worn by women when performing the dance, Flamenco. Traje de luces (costume of lights) is traditionally worn by bull fighters.

Spanish Beauty
Characteristics of beautiful women in Spain were long, thick, brunette hair, silm bodices, and natural makeup that accentuated the dark, sultry eye effect. A primary focus within Spanish beauty that has been passed down for generations is being seen as classy. Spanish actresses such as Carmen Sevilla and Penelope Crúz are examples of Spanish beauty in modern years. Also, because Spain's beauty standards are hyperfocused on remaining natural, plastic surgery is not as common there as it is in the United States and other countries.
