According to Jacobs (2004), curriculum mapping helps educators match instruction with their goals and standards. This includes a course overview with important topics, learning outcomes, and evaluation techniques. Curriculum maps also list the skills and information students should learn and the texts and software they will utilize (Jacobs, 2004). These maps help ensure that critical topics and skills are covered, lowering the likelihood of curricular gaps. They also avoid repetition and learning gaps across grades (Jacobs, 2004). Curriculum maps help teachers organize courses and communicate course information to students, parents, and other stakeholders (Jacobs, 2004).
