The inventor of this product was a Japanese inventor, Niichi Matoba, who was granted a patent for applying oxidation. He devoted his time for researching how to use his product for practical uses. The chemical components involved in a handwarmer are cellulose, iron, activated carbon, vermiculite (which holds water) and salt.

The first ice/cold pack was created in 1959 by Albert A. Robbins. The ice pack he made was meant to keep food and drinks cold for a certain period of time. The top ice pack brands are Thrive Ice Pack, TruHealth Ice Pack, and AllSett Health Ice Pack. The temperature ice packs get to are around 32*F. Instant ice packs last for about 15-20 minutes, which provides the time needed for proper care and treatment.
