Appendicitis occurs whenever the inside of the appendix is blocked. It affects the digestive system but can be stopped by the removal of the appendix

Robert Lawson Tait made the first diagnosis of appendicitis in 1880 and removed the appendix. Later, in 1886 he published the study and named the procedure the appendectomy.
