What is research
Welcome to the Year 13 research project. This assessment is work 5 credits and is crucial to you passing the year. We are taking a field trip on Friday 5 May, which is essential. In this Genially you will find lots, but not all, of the information you need. This assessment is student-led, so you need to make an effort if you want to get these crucial credits. Good luck!

To help familiarise you with the process we will spend two lessons working through a partially completed assessment on 'How do building heights and land uses changes around the city?' to help you get the idea of what to do.

What is research
What are you trying to find out in your research? This is your aim. You can phrase it as an investigation "To compare two beaches and explain the differences", or as a hypothesis, "That the West Coast beaches will be smaller, flatter, and more vegetated than the East Coast beaches." Your whole group should have the same aim.

What is research
What exactly are you planning to do out there? You need to decide on a method that will get you data that you can use to investigate your aim. You will need to write your method down. This should be detailed enough that another group of Year 13 students could pick it up and go and use it... and get similar results. You should write the methods as a group.

What is research
In this section you need to provide a set of your results. This is a neat copy of what you found out at the beaches. At this point you aren't creating any presentations - the presentations will be created with these results. The results section should be completed with your group. Secondary data (results from another group) can also be included.

Analysis of your data.
What is research
The analysis is where you write about what you found. You need to briefly but factually describe your results, explain your results, and critically analyse them for excellence. Descriptions say what you found, add facts. Explanations are where you say 'why' these findings are like they are. Add explanations - what processes have occurred? Critical analysis says how important this result is when understanding your environment and answering your aim.

What is research
In this section you need to report back on your aim or hypothesis. You should re-state your aim, and give a summary of what you found out. Merit is available for answers that include specific detail.

Evaluating your research.
Exemplar
At the end of your research, how well do you think it went? Let's be honest - at this point you start blagging on about how it was really good (even though most of you messed around on the trip.) Don't even start. An evaluation is saying how accurate or reliable the research was. Accuracy: did you measure correctly? Reliablility: is your method foolproof?
