The Past Tense of the verb be: Was/Were.Regular Verbs.
The Past Tense of the verb be: was/were
"Was'' and ''Were'' are both the past tense forms of the verb ''be,'' which is used to show a noun's state of being, or used as a helping verb in connection with other verbs. These changes in a verb's forms are known as conjugations and they're based on a verb's tense, person, and number. Tense refers to when the action takes place, while person and number both describe the noun that is doing the action. We have already established that ''was'' and ''were'' are both in the past tense, indicating things that have already happened.
When to use Were
When to use Was
Was is a past tense indicative form of being, meaning “to exist or live,” and is used in the first person singular (I) and the third person singular (he/she/it). You can use the past indicative when you’re talking about reality and known facts.
Were is used for both the third person plural past tense (they and we) and the second person past tense (you). In the past indicative, were acts similar to was.

What are Regular Verbs?
A regular verb is a verb that follows a predictable pattern when switching between tenses. In English, you can usually form the past tense of a regular verb simply by adding the suffix “-ed”, “-d” or "-id" to the end of the verb. This applies to both the simple past tense and the past participle.
