Why are Oceans Mostly Unexplored?
Mathieu Rose
How Much of the Oceans Are Explored Today?
Shockingly, only about 5 percent of the world's oceans have been explored to date.
This is as a result of numerous challenges that present itself when trying to plunge into the depths. These challenges include extremely high pressures, no visibility, and freezing temperatures.
More is known about space than our oceans
This shows that sending divers into the oceans can be incredibly risky as our bodies can't sustain these temperatures
The coldest temperature ever recorded in the ocean is 28 degrees Fahrenheit
Why Should we Try to Explore More of the Ocean?
"Since 1991 we have known more about the topography of Mars than we do about the earth's seafloor, and oceans certainly have a much more direct impact on our everyday lives than the surface of Mars," Vice Admiral Shin Tani
With enough committment, and the development of new technology we could be able to better navigate the poceans, and doing so will certainly reap many benefits. There may be many valuable minerals or even cures to diseases that are sitting in the abyss deep beneath the ocean's surface.

What Lies Beneath the Ocean?
Strange Reports of Ocean Encounters
In 2003 scientists decided to tag a 9-foot-long great white shark to study temperature changes in the ocean. Weirdly, several months later, the tag recording the information was found on shore. When researchers looked at the tags information, they were stunned. About four months after the tag was put on, the shark seemed to have dove around 1,900 feet, which suggests it was attacked and eaten by something. But what could eat a 9-foot great white? An even bigger shark
The Bermuda Triangle is a source of great mystery for anyone who is familiar with it. A geographic location between Florida, Bermuda, and the Bahamas, which has seen numerous disappearances of aircraft and sea vessels. One of two instances can be marked as a coincidence, but with the number of cases of people vanishing without a trace, there has to be something else at play. Figuring this mystery out could be groundbreaking for society.
These are just a few of the stories that have been brought to light about the ocean. It is definitely very exciting to think about what other creatures or phenomenons are there, undiscovered in the oceans, or even those which have been encountered, but not survived.
