Willie O'Ree

Willie O'Ree was the first ever African American to play in the National Hockey Leauge. He has helped to grow many diversity programs and was the NHL's first diversity ambassador.

Why is Diversity and Inclusion important for the Sport of Hockey?Diversity is essential to have in the sport for many reasons. One reason is to have a cultural understanding. Players from all over the world play the sport with different backgrounds and cultures, allowing the people that watch to learn about the different cultures. Diversity can also inspire the younger generation who may not have thought they would be able to play the sport. This can inspire them to chase their dreams of playing in the NHL.
