1. What is the european union ?

The European Union (EU) is an economic and political organization made up of 27 democratic European countries.

2. how did the european union start ?

Started over 60 years ago. By then, the Second World War (1939-1945) had ended. Most of the European countries were devastated.

3. spain's entry into the EU

In 1962, the Government of General Franco requested the entry of Spain into the EEC. At that time, Spain was a dictatorship and one of the requirements of the EEC was that its members be democratic countries. Therefore, the Spanish petition was unsuccessful. Later, in 1967, the president of the government Adolfo Suárez presented the application for admission again, which on this occasion was successful.

4. Spain as a member country of the eu

Spain's incorporation into the EU forces it to take harsh economic measures to adapt to the European common market, such as the closure or conversion of industries that had become obsolete and were not competitive. many people lost their jobs.

Belonging to a common market has caused an enormous increase in Spanish trade, by being able to freely import and export products within the EU.

European funds received have allowed the development of less prosperous areas and the modernization of transport infrastructure.

Spanish men and women have more opportunities and rights as European citizens.

5. The institutions of the european union

The European Union has different institutions to manage itself.

- The European Council: It brings together all the heads of state or government of the member countries, normally four times a year, in Brussels (Belgium), where the headquarters of this institution are located.

- The European Commission: It is formed by a team of commissioners and commissioners, one for each member country. These propose laws, verify that the countries comply with them and are in charge of preparing the budget.

- The European Parliament: It represents the citizens of the EU, since they are the ones who elect their members, the MEPs, every five years through democratic elections. They are also in charge of approving laws and budgets.

6. the eu and its members

The EU is an economic and political organization formed by a gperoup of democratic European countries.

the objetives of the EU

Propose peace, democracy and well-being. Guarantee freedom, security and rights. Promote solidarity. Support sustainable economic growth. Promote scientific and technological progress. Achieve an economic and monetary union. Respect the cultural diversity of the member countries.

7. the economy in the e.u

The EU we know today has its origins in several treaties signed after the Second World War. Its first step was to promote economic cooperation with the idea that trade produces interdependence between countries that reduces the chances of conflict. The result was the European Economic Community, created in 1958 with the initial aim of increasing economic cooperation between six countries: Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.

Since then, twenty-two other countries have joined (plus the United Kingdom that left the EU on January 31, 2020) and a huge single market (also known as the "internal" market) has been created that continues to advance to develop its full potential.

What started as a purely economic union has grown into an organisation covering many different policy areas, from climate, environment and health to external relations and security, justice and migration.
