Bachata is a social dance style from the Dominican Republic that is now danced all over the world

CHARACTERISTICS

Is a small group of musicians with one or two guitars, electric ones are used a lot, a double bass and percussion instruments like bongos, maracas and güiro.The rhythm of the bachata is due to the fusion of the rhythm of other musical genres such as the Cuban son, the chachachá and the merengue.

EVOLUTION OF THE STYLE

Bachata emerged around the middle of the 20th century in the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean. Its roots are in some African rhythms, the Cuban son and the bolero.The rhythms that would form the bachata that we know today, substituting different initial instruments for others such as the so called "guira" and some guitars.

It was one of the first gropus of bachata, being the most influential of all time. Romeo Santos was the leader of this group that separated in 2011, having a reunion in 2019 on a Romeo’s song.

He is a dominican singer considered by most of America the king of bachata.

He is american with dominican origin. He was one of the first to sing bachata in English and Spanish. Although nowadays he doesn’t sing this genre.
