Elements of a Slide

Common errors while writing bullets:

• Using the wrong bullet type
• Using periods inconsistently
• Using -ing inconsistently/sentence construction(parallelism)
• Not defining second-level bullets

Instead:

• Do not have too many bullets on the slide
• Use numbered bullets for sequence or list. Use solid bullets otherwise
• Keep bullets short and precise
• Be consistent in using/not-using periods at the end of bullets
• Be consistent in using/not-using "-ing"

• Make sure that the bullets are reading grammatically correctly with the lead-in sentence

Here is a quick reminder of what you already know:

• Keep it simple and short
• Use active voice; not passive
• Remove repetitions
• Use them or they to be gender neutral; not he or she
• Use correct subject-verb agreement

• Set your laptop setting to English (U.S)
• Use grammar-checking tools, such as Grammarly or Language Tool to check grammar and punctuation

Language & Grammar

Wordy language and bad grammar are an absolute no-no.
