What is a correlation study?

> A correlational study is a research method that looks at the relationship between 2 or more variables. This research method is non-experimental and the experimentor doesn't manipulate the variables

Types of correlation studies

Naturalistic Observation: Involves observing, recording variables in a natural setting without nay interference
Survey: Very common study, and research design. This design involves random samples of participants completing a test or questionaire related to the variables you are looking for
Archival Research: Analyzing studies performed by other researchers. Researchers using databases, records are examples of archival research

Correlation studies

In correlational studies, there are graphs to show wether it's a postivie, negative, weak or strong correlation between 2 or more variables.

Synthesis and organization, the two pillars of presentatin

  • .
Correlation coefficent are represented by r-values. R-values are from -1 to 1, where the further you are away to 0 and closer to -1 or 1 it shows a stronger relationship. In the image in the top left, the first two graphs are strongly correlated, while the third graph shows a weak relationship, as there are dots everywhere on the graph

Correlational study examples:

>Researchers go to a park and observe how many people visit on a hot day (Naturalistic)

>Giving out questionairres to people to determine SAT scores and socioeconomic status (Survey)

>Using a dataset to analyze the relationship between lung cancer and smoking cigarettes (Archival)
