When to use there is and there are.

In English, we use "There is" and "There are" to talk about the existence of people, places, and things. Both expressions are used to refer to something that is in a specific location or to talk about the quantity of something. Examples;There is a book on the table. There are three books on the table.

Affirmative

There + Be + objectThere is a tie in the closet

Negative

There + Be + not +objectThere was not a tie in the closet

Interrogative

Be + There + object + ?Will there be a tie in the closet?
