Temporary Homeless Assistance & Expanded Temporary Homeless Assistance

An AU applying for Temporary Homeless Shelter (TH) must meettechnical conditions of eligibility:

TECHNICAL CONDITIONS OF ELIGIBILITY

• Furnishing a SSN or application for a SSN. • Cooperating with the District Attorney. • Applying for/accepting potentially available income (including UIB).

PAYMENT PERIOD

16 DAYS

An AU may be eligible for up to a maximum total of 16 days of temporary shelter. These days do not have to be consecutive.

12 monthS

There is no requirement to re-verify homelessness after the initial verification of homelessness even if the family does not receive or use their benefits consecutively.

If there is a written agreement between the household and the renter of the property, that agreement may be accepted instead of the TEMP CWC 97 as long as it includes the following:

• Once a family has utilized all 32 days of benefits, they will have exhausted their once-in-a-lifetime benefits for expanded Temporary HA

Victims of domestic violence

Applicants Must:

CalWORKs applicants who are victims of domestic abuse may be eligible to expanded Temporary Homeless assistance. A CW applicant who is fleeing his or her abuser may be deemed homeless and eligible for up to 32 days of Temporary HA.

• Provide a sworn statement of past or present domestic abuse.
• Be determined apparently eligible to CW.

Income and Assets

• Of the abuser are not evaluated when determining eligibility for expanded Temporary Homeless Assistance benefits if they are unavailable to the applicant.

A lump sum payment equal to 16 days of Temporary HA benefits must be paid to the client at one time.

applicant may request the payments be made directly to themselves (EBT) or to the provider of shelter (vendor).

Since the two 16-day increments do not need to be used consecutively, the second issuance of 16 days could be used for a different instance of homelessness, months or even years later, as long as the applicant meets the eligibility criteria for these benefits, including being an applicant for CW who is actively fleeing domestic abuse.
