Literacy Tests were used to prove an adequate education. Of course, this targeted African-Americans due to the years of oppression and poverty. Sometimes, the tests were ridiculously difficult or unfairly graded.
Poll Taxes were taxes that were reuired to be paid in order to vote. Due to years of oppression and poverty, these taxes unfairly targeted African Americans.
Grandfather Clauses allowed you to register to vote if your ancestors could vote. Of course, many ancestors of African-Americans could not vote, so these laws were used to keep people of color from voting. not vote, so these laws were used to keep people of color from voting.
