Belgium is a federal state constituted by three communities and three regions, based on 4 language areas. The subdivisions together make up the entire country.

The three communities are: - the Flemish community - the French community - the German-speaking community

The flemish community

The Flemish community is one of the three communities of Belgium. The official language is Dutch. Most of the group is formed by recent immigrants. The Flemish community has a historical event celebrated on July 11 to mark the anniversary of the Battle of the Golden Spurs in 1302. The day is commemorated in the Place de la Monnaie and the Grand Palace in Brussels.

The french community

The French community is the other community in Brussels. This community used to speak variants from others regions, like Walloon and Luxembourgish, but nowadays, the language that is most commonly spoken is Belgian French. The French community holiday is commemorated on September 27. This date was chosen after an occasion in the Belgian Revolution.
