Trial Scence Explained
by:Nellie,Jenni,diego,Delilah
Do you think Tom was innocent, and did Atticus do a good job of representing him?
Our opinion: (Was Tom Innocent?)
First we’d have to know what he was or could have been guilty for, which is, rapeing Mayella Ewell. In most people's opinions including ours, we find him not guilty in doing this crime. We believe that Mayella’s father, Bob, abused her and his children using Tom as an excuse to make himself look innocent.

Did Atticus do a good job defending Tom?
He did a good job, yet the decision of helping Tom was a dangerous one. For two main reasons he did put his children and himself in danger, and for the fact that bob sword he’d get revenge on Atticus.

Allegation
In “To Kill a Mockingbird,” Mayella, a white woman, accused Tom, a black man, of raping her.
Atticus addressing tom
To prove Tom Robinson's innocence, Atticus uses a variety of courtroom evidence in To Kill a Mockingbird. He makes a case that Bob Ewell, not Tom, caused Mayella's injuries by relying on Heck Tate's testimony to determine where they were located.

Tom´s side of the story
Tom always passes through Mayellas's position in order to get to work. Tom said that there was nothing wrong, and Mayella asked if he could help her with something as a favor. He agreed to help her. She requested Tom's assistance in lowering yet another chiffon robe that was nearly as tall as the room. He did as she instructed, and as he was reaching, she grabbed him by the legs the next thing he knew. He jumped down and flipped the chair over because she scared him so much. She hopped on him and embraced him around his waist and, went after a kiss. Tom attempted to run however she was before the entryway and wouldn't allow him to pass. Tom pushed her unintentionally, but rather out of fear. When Bob saw what his daughter had done, he became irate and threatened to kill her. He was running so quickly that he was unaware of what had transpired.

Mayella’s story
On the porch, Mayella was. She told Tom to move something because it was too heavy for her to move, and she had a nickel for him. She went inside to get the nickel while he was doing that; when she turned around, he was already behind her and began to beat and choke her, taking advantage of her. She also claimed to have kicked and screamed. Then, at that point, she said that she recalled her father remaining in the room "Who done it, Who done it?” Mayella claimed that she had fainted as well and that Mr. tom was following Tate to the bucket of water.

The Verdict
Tom was declared guilty, and that meant, Atticus did not win the court case for Tom. Tom explained what “actually” happened, in his own perspective. It as completely different from what Mayella had said and it was pretty obvious that she was lying since she kept changing the story, when they would ask her a question each time.
