HESI
Research on predictive accuracy of the HESI exams has been conducted using this HESI score, and studies have found the HESI Score to be highly accurate in predicting NCLEX success. For example, while a score of 850 or more is acceptable, students who score at 900 or above on the HESI Exit Exam are predicted to pass the NCLEX without additional preparation. Each nursing program is responsible for establishing its own standard or policy for benchmarked or acceptable scores, including any gradebook conversion metrics.
Health Education Systems, Inc. (HESI), a national standardized testing package to provide learners with a
consistent means for remediation and addressing shortfalls in the attainment of knowledge and
achieving the requisite professional nursing competencies.
The HESI exams are designed to assist the learner in preparation for the NCLEX licensure exam with the HESI-RN exit exam a predictor of likelihood of success on the NCLEX.

NGN NCLEX
The NGN launched on April 1, 2023 to better measure nursing candidates’ clinical judgment and decision making abilities through the use of innovative item types. The need to measure this stemmed from information gathered during the 2013-2014 NCSBN Strategic Practice Analysis, which showed newly licensed nurses are increasingly expected to make complex decisions while caring for patients.
