Charlotte E. ray is a famous lawyer. She is not just a lawyer she is both the first woman to practice in Washington Dc, and the first black female lawyer in the US.

Charlotte E. ray was born in New York City of 1850. In New York City her dad worked as a minister and was a prominent abolitionist. She attended one of the few educational institutions in the country that educated African-American girls. Education is important to her father so he made sure each of his girls went to college. Charlotte E. Ray attended Howard University School of Law where in Washington DC, graduating in 1869.

In 1875 Charlotte E. ray opened up her own law firm. June 3rd 1875 Charlotte got her first case. She was he first female admitted to the District of Columbia Bar, and the first woman admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the District of Columbia. She broke race and gender barriers from becoming the first African-American woman to graduate from an American law school. Charlotte was the first woman to graduate from Howard law school.
