ACTIVITY 3.3. POLLUTION EFFECTS PRESENTATION
wow
Learn everything about how it affects our world enviroment...
Let's go!
Contamination V.S Pollution
Contamination and pollution are both terms used to describe the presence of harmful or unwanted substances in an environment, but they differ in their scope and application. Contamination generally refers to the presence of any substance that is not naturally occurring or desirable in a specific location or context. For example, contaminated water may contain bacteria, viruses, chemicals, or other substances that make it unsafe for consumption or use. On the other hand, pollution usually refers to the release of harmful substances into the environment that can have negative impacts on living organisms and ecosystems. Pollution can be caused by human activities such as industrial processes, transportation, agriculture, and waste disposal, as well as natural events such as wildfires and volcanic eruptions.
Destruction of the ozone layer
Without the EPA the U.S. would have seen an additional 280 million cases of skin cancer, 1.5 million skin cancer deaths, and 45 million cataracts—and the world would be at least 25 percent hotter.
What is it? When chlorine and bromine atoms come into contact with ozone in the stratosphere, they destroy ozone molecules. The problem of ozone depletion is that increased amounts of UV radiation reach the Earth led to more cases of skin cancer, cataracts, and impaired immune systems

Exctintion of species
What is it? One of the ways habitat is degraded is by pollution. Creatures that depend on either freshwater or saltwater for all or part of their life cycles, like fish, frogs, marine mammals, and many invertebrates, are especially vulnerable to pollution. The real problem is that factories and cars release chemicals into the air. The chemicals are deposited on land by rain, causing pollution, including what is known as acid rain. Acid rain weakens and kills plant life, decreasing the food supply for animals that eat the plants.

Many scientists believe that within the next 75 years, half of the earth's species will be extinct.

Greenhouse Effect
Know more about the greenhouse effect in here: https://youtu.be/SN5-DnOHQmE
What is it? A natural process that keeps earth warm and that occurs when gases in Earth's atmosphere trap the Sun's heat. The real problem about it gets when we talk about the contamination and pollution because it has effects in the thawing of glacial masses, Flooding of islands and coastal cities, Hurricanes will be more devastating, Impact on agriculture and livestock, Migration of species.

What are we doing?
China is the largest source of carbon dioxide emissions, through an energy infrastructure heavily focused on fossil fuels and coal in the world, This could cause GDP losses estimated between 0.5% and 2.3% already in 2030
Climate Change
Fun Fact: Last Decade Was the Hottest in 125,000 Years
Climate change is a phenomenon when temperatures and weather patterns change mainly because of human activities, for example due to the burning of fossil fuels, such as coal, oil and gas, which produce gases that trap heat, but it also can be because natural causes.
What are we doing about it? More than 170 countries have now introduced national policies and laws on climate change adaptation to address impacts including the rising risks of extreme events such as floods and droughts.

Effects Health
What is it? Health includes our emotional, psychological, physical and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. There is evidence mounts that environmental pollutants damage every organ in our bodies (including our brains). The problem is that several studies have shown that pollution is associated with more cases of mental illness, worsening of judgment and school performance. In addition, it could influence crime levels. It also gets respiratory diseases, this is because the exposure in the short and long term to air pollutants, it can also affect in a simpler scale like the poor quality on environment can make the tissue inside your nose becomes irritated, causing you to sneeze and itch.

Personal Reflections

Alejandra Perales
In this activity I learned a lot about the types of contamination and their diverses effects and how we can improve everything. In very conclusion I think it is very important because overall, caring about pollution can have significant impacts on the environment, human health, the economy, and society as a whole. By taking steps to reduce pollution, we can help protect the planet and ensure a better future for ourselves and future generations.
With this activity I was able to understand all the damage that we have caused to the world and I could see this reflected in the examples that we gave since in them we saw reality and how the world is dealing with pollution and its effects. This made me realize that we really must make an effort to improve these effects that are damaging the planet even more, depilating it in a great way. It is important to be aware of the solutions that already exist and that have proven to work, because with this we can do something to make people more aware and thus the solution works more and we make a bigger change. It is important that we create awareness because if we continue in this way we could cause the natural tecirsos to end
In conclusion in this activity we learned several things. First able , we need to understand that pollution is a global issue that has taken place a lot of years ago and it’s affecting and contributing to a lot of the current issues that our Earth faces. As we mentioned on the presentation there are several consequences that the human being has been exposed to for example the effect pollution causes in our mental health and how we became more susceptible and could acquire more sickness than if we didn’t have so much contamination. Also, how the extinction of species has been lately, taking more place because of the loss of habitats that could come from the different types of pollution that would end up with that and later with some species. Finally I think it’s important that us as a flirty try to apply different tips and stuff that we can do from our houses and daily yo try to reduce the levels of pollution in our community.
