"Trafalgar Square in the City of Westminister, Central London, established in the early 19th around the area formerly known as Charing Cross.

IT'S HISTORY
The Square name's commemorates the Battle of Trafalgar, the British naval victory in the Napoleonic Wars over France and Spain that took place on 21stOctober 1805 off the coast of Cape Trafalgar. The site around Trafalgar Square had been a significant landmark since the 1200s. The Square had been used for community gatherings and political demonstrations, including Bloody Sunday in 1887. Unfortunately the Square was also the target of two suffragette bombings in 1913 and 1914. This was part of the sufragette bombing and arson campain.

Barry's scheme provided two plinths for sculptures o the north side of the square a bronze equestrian statue of george IV and two other statues on the plinths, both installed in the 19th century: General charles james napier and major- general sir henry havelock but beside these 3 there is another one called the fourth plinth, installed in the 21st century to show specially commissioned artworks
