Text Structure Guide

Text Example: Elsa accidentally freezes Anna as children. To protect everyone, Elsa is kept away and her powers remain secret. Then, Elsa's secret is exposed and she accidentally freezes their kingdom.

STRUCTURE 01

Cause and Effect

Photograph Example: Cause- Elsa can't control her powers Effect- she causes Anna harm and freezes the kingdom in spring

Text Example: Olaf daydreams about what it would be like to spend time in "summer" because he only knows cold and winter. We can see the differences between the seasons through his song.

Photograph Example: The snowman is made of frozen water (snow) and needs to be in cold temperatures. The beach has water, but is very hot.

Compare and Contrast

Text Example: There are several things that had to happen BEFORE Anna could save Elsa. If this scene had been in the beginning or middle of the story, the plot would not have made sense and the audience would not have been emotionally connected to the story.

Photograph Example: This image shows a storyboard used to outline the order of actions in the scene where Anna protects Elsa.

STRUCTURE 03

Sequence

Text Example: The only way for Elsa to unfreeze what she's frozen is through love. Love is the solution to her problem.

Photograph Example: Problem- Elsa doesn't know how to unfreeze the kingdom or Anna Solution- Anna makes a sacrifice and Elsa cries out of love, which then unfreezes Anna and the kingdom.

STRUCTURE 04

Problem and Solution

Text Example: Think about the detail in each scene and for each character. Elsa's dresses are very different from Anna's because they are very different characters and those details help describe them.

Photograph Example: Olaf can be described as having a red Santa on, a camera around his neck, and a smile on his face.
